Paros hotels booking
Every island in the Cyclades is unique in one way or another, and Paros is no exception. It combines two lively main towns and several remote villages with good cuisine, gorgeous beaches and whitewashed homes to create a real island feel, without losing touch with its traditions and heritage. In Paros you can enjoy your vacation in an atmospheric luxury hotel, or in a low cost traditional room. There are great options for your accommodation.
Parikia is really a great town by a seafront filled with ‘tavernas’ that offer excellent food, showcasing as well neoclassical mansions and a towering windmill at one end that’s perfect to watch sunsets from. Another major monument is the Venetian Castle from the 13th century that also offers fabulous views of the town and parts of the island. Do not miss the impressive church of Panagia Ekatontapyliani which means Church of 100 Gates, complete with a Byzantine museum. Speaking of museums, the Archeological museum in Parikia is well worth a visit for its collection of notable artefacts.
The island also offers a variety of different villages and communities that should be visited, such as the second biggest town of Naoussa which is more of a glitzy party town in summer. It boasts a little port lined with restaurants and coffee shops, and small boutiques that delight the eyes. The traditional village of Marpissa with a medieval element will also delight, so will the mountain village of Lefkes which remains largely untouched by tourism, perched on the highest part of the island.
If you like nature, flora and fauna, explore the island by hiking around, an activity that is best done in fall or spring. A one-hour walk from Lefkes to the village of Prodromos on a mostly paved road is a good start, and will have you fall in love with the winding alleyways of your destination. Hike also from Marpissa to Kefalos Hill and the Monastery of Agios Antonios, passing by windmills, churches, and a Venetian castle. The hikes will open you up to a world of birdsong and the sounds of crickets, cicadas, frogs, gulls and more. Another natural feature is the valley of the butterflies.
If you’re the beach time you’ll love beaches like Kolymbirthres, Chrissi Akti (Golden Coast), Pounta and Santa Maria. Canoeing, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing are all present on different beaches. Lastly, take a short boat ride to the nearby island of Antiparos and visit its magnificent caves. Stroll through its little town and visit its gorgeous beaches. The little gem of Antiparos has an even more authentic flavor to it as it remains relatively unknown. Together, Paros and Antiparos can be a base for a great vacation indeed.
