Agios Ioannis beach

Agios Ioannis beach is one of the closest bays, on the southwest side of the island, with shallow waters and a unique view to the island of Delos, the cape of Aleomandra and the canal between Mykonos and Delos.

Considered being the most beautiful beach of the island’s south-west coast, Agios Ioannis has soft sand and crystalline blue waters. It took its name from the small chapel on the left side of the beach. It is also known for its famous sunset, which made Mykonos it even more famous in 1975, after the filming of the movie ”Shirley Valentine”.

There takes place the most famous festival of the island in late September. You can go to the beach by following the peripheral road to Ornos.

Agios Ioannis beach has excellent taverns, many villas and vacation homes and several large hotels, which offer high quality services. In the restaurants, apart from coffee and cocktails, there is extensive menu with ouzo, fish dishes and seafood, and sushi menu.

The beach is perfect for those who like tranquility and relaxation in their swimming, as there are no water sports. Next to the beach, there is a path that goes to the port with the fishing boats. What characterizes the alley is a large mulberry tree in the left of the road and many great prickly pears.

Agios Ioannis beach is the last big and organized beach. After the picturesque little church of Agios Ioannis there is a small dirt road leading to a small beach, Kapari. The sunset from there is even more idyllic. The road is asphalted and in excellent condition.
